FRIENDS and BJÖRK

Here's a private commission for a good friend of mine. He totally loves BJÖRK! Now who can blame him?

Above you can see the line drawing, then the finished piece in color. There is still a lot of white in there to help the aetherical look of BJÖRKS growing creations.
Seeing that this was to be colored, I set the lines differently than with the BLACK AND WHITE ink drawings I usually work in. I left space in the drawing to texture it with the acrylics instead of adding different strokes and inkdots. So much for the technical side. The drawing was then mounted onto a disc of wood rather than framing it for hanging. We did this to work it into a wall panel in the room.

This is not the best reproduction of the colors as we only took quick snaps (some of the lighter contrasts of the paint are lost), but scanning will follow and make up for that.

MOVING INTO THE MOOD

I drew this as a MOOD PIECE for the drawings that went into the bags you can see below. As all drawings I make for DRAWING NEEDS go directly into the "product", the process of designing visuals for the bags is different from Illustration for print, where there can be many revisions and sketches until the piece is finished. With these, I don't make sketches or layouts, because I try to be as senseless as I can be and put that into the composition and the look of the drawings.
This also roots in the idea that there is a connection between the person that owns the final thing by buying it and the thing itself. Hopefully, by putting in a drawing, that moment will be a bit more round and relaxed.

What I do to prepare myself and my ideas of what I'm trying to put into the design, is that I make one of these MOOD PIECES, that will lead the following drawings and sets the visual MOOD for them. I can step out left and right while drawing, but I will get a feel for where I can return to by looking at this basic drawing.

IRMSA is doing another selection of smaller bags (okay, one large one as well...) and they will be here by the end of the week by the way.

BAGS at MOTMOT SHOP!

GIANT UPDATE ...snicker

Sooo, here are the finished bags! Ready and gorgeous - I'm really happy with how they turned out, IRMSA did a fantastic job again. It's quite thrilling to see a drawing going directly into the product, I hope whoever will buy them gets a kick out of them as well! You can see some of the sewn on details IRMSA applied to the bags in the close up shots.

Below are the drawings for the bags Irmsa makes - Each bag holds two pieces of artwork sewn in so you can carry them around with you wherever you want to. We have three different sizes, here are the two medium sized bags + one large bag. There are more of course, BUT you'll have to drop by at the MOTMOT SHOP next week to see them!

MIDI BAG 1

MIDI BAG 2

MIXED BAG - LARGE 1

Here are the four drawings of the midi Bags in overlay. You won't be able to see it like that on the bag, because of the underlaying cloth, but the two sides working together was the concept behind the drawings.
It's fun! I'm working on some more pieces with that effect...

JUST SOME MORE.... at FREIGEIST

These two were drawn in the aftermath of the FREIGEIST session, I started them as promotional pieces for another show, but they ran off and the FREIGEIST feeling took over. TOTALLY.
As with the others, they are drawn on Fabriano paper, with ink in direct layouts on the paper and of course without sketching.

MOTMOT SHOP WINDOW!

DRAWING NEEDS ANNOUNCEMÈNT!

From Saturday the 31. of October we will be shining from one of the shop windows at the formidable MOTMOT SHOP in Vienna - KIRCHENGASSE 36 (please CLICK-CLICK!), there we present some of our known things like CARDS, BUTTONS and BAGS - each and everyone fitted with an original drawing. Yes you heard right friends, whatever you choose to get from us is a item with a handdrawn design that only you will have. That's much in occurance with the cool things our friendly friends Anna and Steve from the MOTMOT Shop are making, but we'll get to that later. We made a special collection of our things for them, so all in the window is only to be seen and to get at the MOTMOT's.

In addition to that there will also be a drawn tapestry set on the walls of the window. It's gonna be quite big - and it was just as big fun as that to draw it for sure.

Both the MOTMOT's and us have a thing with producing our wares on the spot - It's one of the nicest and funnest things at the MOTMOT SHOP to go in, choose your design and your fave garment and get it printed right away. And that's screenprinting I'm talking about, not the usual iron-on kind of thing - WOW! That's one reason why I fell in love with the store immediatly. Sooo, we will merge our stupendous qualities on the 6th of November at the 6th district BLOCK PARTY, where I will be drawing at the shop and the MOTMOT's will have some extra specials ready for you. I'll draw some of our CARDS, as well as large size BUTTONS made after your wishes and buttonized right away for you to take home.

As you can imagine we're PRETTY excited about that! Below you can see some of the drawings I was working on for the window, I will update you on those as the 31. draws closer. We hope you enjoy all that and have the chance to stop by!
